Staff handbooks, contracts & policies

Staff contracts are a legal requirement from day one of employment. As well as being a legal requirement, the contract ensures the terms and conditions of employment are communicated to employees. An employment contract should be reflective of differing employment status, eg Full Time / Part Time / Fixed Term as well as any other specific requirements. The contract should also be updated whenever employment law changes.

While a staff handbook is not a legal requirement, the staff handbook acts as a way to communicate your business culture. It is not a replacement for an employment contract but ensures that employees are aware of both their terms and conditions of employment and all company policies and procedures.

Our HR Consultant offers a free review of your existing handbook and contracts, and, if needed, we can update staff handbooks, contracts and policies, so that you have documentation specific to your business needs.

Disciplinaries, grievances and absence management

We can support you in drafting Disciplinary and Grievance policies either in the employee handbook or separate policy and procedure as well as support and advice on individual cases either at the informal or formal stage. We will guide you through every step of the way and provide draft letters and documentation for your use.

Absence issues can be a problem either short-term, recurring absences or long-term absences. It not only affects the individual’s performance, but can affect the performance of the whole team. An Absence Management Policy gives structure to company expectations and is a framework to address issues as they arise.

Performance management

A vital part of your business is driven by your employees. You need to ensure employees are engaged in your business to ensure they are doing their best for your business.

Management of your employees starts during the probationary period. During this period, your new employees should prove that they are the right person for the job. An induction process, training, meetings and performance appraisals will allow you to assess their effectiveness and address any concerns early on.

If you need help with this process, contact Sarah at ADM Accountancy and she will guide you in the right direction, ensuring your processes are legally compliant. Sarah can assist if poor employee performance leads to difficult conversations or dismissal.

Recruitment

Recruitment is one of the most important activities for any company and recruiting the right staff for your company can be tricky and time consuming. You may need help with preparing a Job Profile, reviewing CVs and interviewing candidates.

We can ensure the recruitment process if legally compliant, as employment law applies before you recruit an employee.

Organisational change

The threat of redundancy and restructuring is a difficult process for any business to undertake. Staff who are to be made redundant should be treated fairly throughout the process.

A business carrying out redundancies should ensure there is good communication between all involved in the process, which will make the process less painful and reduce operational disruption.

Consultation about proposed redundancies must start as early as possible. As well as being ethical, this will help keep staff engaged and ensure the business can move forward with the recovery process.

The managers and business owners who are responsible for carrying out the redundancy process must ensure that they comply with the law around the selection process, notice periods, pay entitlements, etc, to avoid tribunal claims.
If you need any assistance or guidance with organisational change, do not hesitate to contact us.

We can also support you in ensuring your business has the right Health & Safety Policy and Procedure in place, helping existing and new staff work safely and efficiently.
